Lee Sklar’s Iconic “Frankenstein” P Bass

Leland Sklar is one of the most recorded bassists of all time, and his heavily modified P Bass has been heard on countless recordings since the mid ’70s. A USA production version of the studio legend’s iconic instrument, the Fender Lee Sklar Precision Bass is certainly one of the most distinctive instruments you’ll find at Danville Music. With its 1.59-inch nut width, the neck is thinner than that of a standard P Bass, providing a faster feel more akin to a Jazz Bass. Like the original, this signature model is spec’d with a round-laminated rosewood fingerboard with a 7.25-inch radius and low-profile frets. The electronics are quite novel as well, with two active EMG Lee Sklar P pickups that deliver a much wider tonal range than a single stock passive P Bass pickup. The Lee Sklar Precision Bass is also outfitted with top-drawer hardware, including a Hipshot BT3 Bass Xtender, and is finished in Fender’s exclusive Heirloom nitrocellulose lacquer. Part of the Fender Stories Collection, the Lee Sklar Precision Bass pays tribute to an iconic bassist and the modified P Bass he used to shape the sound of popular music.
