Description The AKG C414 XLS multi-pattern condenser mic maintains the sonic character of the legendary AKG C414 B-ULS, the longest-lived model of the C414 family. Engineered for the highest linearity and neutral sound, the C414 has been one of the most popular and versatile large-diaphragm microphones for decades. You'll find at least one in any world-class studio. Danville Music recommends AKG C414 mics for accurate, beautifully detailed pickup of anything from acoustic instruments to vocals, amps and ensembles. The AKG C414 XLS keeps the legacy alive with proven reference quality, leading-edge technology and state-of-the-art components. AKG C414 XLS Reference Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone Main Features
  • An update to the iconic C414 mic, found in the world's top studios
  • Nine switchable polar patterns for incredible versatility
  • Enhanced controls, shockmount and casing

The Latest Upgrade to a Classic The AKG C414 XLS may be remodeled, but it's still a C414, through and through. Released in several versions over the years, C414 mics are beloved for their precise, transparent capture of virtually any source. You'll find C414s on stage with the world's biggest artists. They appear in broadcast booths and legendary recording studios. And they're famously durable throughout years of use. Just like its older siblings, the C414 XLS was designed and built in Vienna, Austria from the highest quality components. The only difference is a few improvements.

Switch Between Nine Polar Patterns The C414 XLS adds an extra polar pattern (sub-cardioid) to its predecessor. That makes for a total of nine. Switching patterns allows the user to pick up the exact sounds they want. That can mean an extremely narrow angle or an entire room. The XLS also features a high-pass filter and pad. Together with the switchable patterns, these settings make the C414 versatile to the extreme. You'd be hard pressed to find a more useful mic for a bustling recording studio. That's why the C414 has maintained popularity for so many years. That, and the neutral frequency response, which ensures this mic picks up exactly what it hears, with no coloration. That never goes out of style.

Modernized Controls and a More Rugged Build While the sound has been preserved, the AKG C414 XLS looks different from the older mics in the family. That's mostly because of the controls. Using LEDs and simple visuals, it's easier than ever to manage the many useful settings. The XLS also stands up even better to handling, thanks to an improved shockmount. And unlike in vintage microphones, the casing and circuitry of the C414 XLS are designed to reject electromagnetic interference from modern computers. Don't think of it as a different mic—it's the same iconic AKG C414, and it's looking better than ever.
